We need signs, God.

Reflection

Jesus seems to be opposed to signs.  He’s angry with the people around him who want him to cure and do other wonders.  Jesus’ response is that they and we need to see the signs that are already there.  We need to open our eyes and ears to experience the power of how God is trying to express his love for us.

Perhaps God is speaking in an unexpected way: a Hollywood movie or even a bad report from the doctor.

Matthew 12, 38-42

A Sign from Heaven

Some Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses said, "Teacher, we want you to show us a sign from heaven." But Jesus replied: You want a sign because you are evil and won't believe! But the only sign you will get is the sign of the prophet Jonah. He was in the stomach of a big fish for three days and nights, just as the Son of Man will be deep in the earth for three days and nights. On the day of judgment the people of Nineveh will stand there with you and condemn you. They turned to God when Jonah preached, and yet here is something far greater than Jonah. The Queen of the South ^[will also stand there with you and condemn you. She traveled a long way to hear Solomon's wisdom, and yet here is something much greater than Solomon.

A Prayer

Lord, please open my eyes and ears and soul to your love for me.  Forgive me for being so short on thanks for all the love that you are flooding on me.  Today I’m going to try to be better.  Thank you for being so patient with me.  Amen.
