Reflection
Jesus challenges us to fulfill the 10 commandments
in a profound and painful way. Not only are we to
love those that love us, but we're also called to
get go of our natural reaction of revenge and
vengeance. This is tough, but the key to the Kingdom
that Jesus wants to usher in to our lives.
Scripture Mark 5: 38 - 42
You know that you have been taught, "An eye for an
eye and a tooth for a tooth." But I tell you not to
try to get even with a person who has done something
to you. When someone slaps your right cheek,i turn
and let that person slap your other cheek. If
someone sues you for your shirt, give up your coat
as well. 41If a soldier forces you to carry his pack
one mile, carry it two miles.j When people ask you
for something, give it to them. When they want to
borrow money, lend it to them.
A prayer
Lord, help me overcome my natural inclinations of
revenge and vengeance. I need you help. I know
you're calling me away from my natural inclinations.
Only with you holding me up will I be able to love
and not hate. Amen
