Love is often bigger than we’re able to express.
Love wells up
in our hearts and bodies and we don’t know how to
adequately express it.
We struggle
with symbols to touch the love which is so
overwhelming. And
the symbols seem so weak:words like, “I love you”. Things like a
flower or a ring.Or perhaps we just sigh or tenderly look at
the one we love.
Is it wrong to say that God is frustrated in his way of expressing love
for us? He
gives us a star, a mountain and a cool breeze.
In the Catholic Church we use symbols, sacraments, to express God’s love
for us: water, oil, and a candle.
May we
reawaken God’s love for us and see his signs.
Scripture
Luke Chapter: 11
A Sign from God (Matthew 12.38-42; Mark 8.12)
29As
crowds were gathering around Jesus, he said:
You people of today are evil! You
keep looking for a sign from God. But what happened
to Jonahc
is the only sign you will be given. 30Just
as Jonah was a sign to the people of Nineveh, the
Son of Man will be a sign to the people of today.
31When the judgment comes, the Queen of
the Southd
will stand there with you and condemn you. She
traveled a long way to hear Solomon's wisdom, and
yet here is something far greater than Solomon.
32The people of Nineveh will also stand
there with you and condemn you. They turned to God
when Jonah preached, and yet here is something far
greater than Jonah.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your love for me.Forgive me for not seeing the signs of your
love in your creation.
Thank you
also for expressing your love in the people you
bring into my life. Open
my eyes, ears and heart to find your continual love.
Amen
