No, none of us wants to die.
We do all we can to avoid death. We take
pills, buckle out seat belts. We even undergo a
serious operation to continue living. And then there
are the creams to keep our skin young or the color
in our hair to hide the gray.
So when Jesus talks about a seed
dying, we're not naturally attracted. But as
we listen to Jesus a little more closely, we hear
that the death he's calling us to is the key to
life. We're called to die to the sin that
separates us from ourselves, others and God.
There's so much trying to pull us down and Jesus
wants freedom and life.
In those terms, that kind of
death to selfishness that leads to life is okay.
15 Amen, amen,
I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the
ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat;
but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
Whoever loves his life
16
loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world
will preserve it for eternal life.
Prayer
Lord, you now me. I'm a chicken when it comes
to death. Help me understand your challenge.
You have conquered death. You want me to live.
Help me to turn away from sin. Help me to live
in your freedom. Amen.
